Arctic Monkeys

Group·United Kingdom·since 2002·rock/indie rock/alternative rock

Formed in Sheffield in 2002, Arctic Monkeys exploded onto the scene as pioneers of the internet-driven "blog rock" era, bypassing traditional hype with MySpace demos that captured raw, frantic indie rock laced with Alex Turner's razor-sharp lyricism.

Their debut Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not (2006) defined mid-Noughties British youth culture, blending post-punk urgency and garage swagger into anthems of nightlife and northern grit. What sets them apart is Turner's evolution from gritty storyteller to crooner, channeling influences like David Bowie's glam poise, Jarvis Cocker's wry wit, and Nick Cave's brooding intensity across albums from the angular Favourite Worst Nightmare to the swaggering AM and cinematic The Car. No longer landfill indie darlings, they've shaped a generation's sound while commanding Pyramid Stages worldwide.
