Whitney's Small Talk drifts into view like a sun-faded Polaroid of heartbreak, its analogue warmth self-produced on vintage gear that recaptures the country-soul sweep of their 2016 debut Light Upon the Lake.
Julien Ehrlich's wistful falsetto floats over muted grooves, schmaltzy strings, and breezy horns, evoking endless summer meadows and vague relational dissolves. Opener "Silent Exchange" aches with piano and phantasmal rhythms; duets like "Evangeline" with Madison Cunningham shimmer with glacial beauty.
